Directions:

  • From Pinellas Ave. in town, turn left on W.Orange St, shortly becoming N.Spring Blvd., which then becomes Riverside Dr.
  • In less than 1-mile, go slightly left onto Tarpon Dr.
  • Quickly take the right onto Gulf Rd & follow it all the way to free parking.

Indian Rocks Beach

This smaller town, Indian Rocks Beach (IRB), is a charming and less merchandizing-focused area.

On the barrier island south of Clearwater Beach. Take FL-688 W (Walsingham Rd). After the Causeway Bridge turn right on Gulf Blvd.

Experience the soft white sands and calm, clear waters. Here, you can Escape The Crowds, enjoying a laid-back beach experience.

Choose a Great Place to Stay. Like Relaxing Cottages, Vacation Rentals, or A Homey Lodge.

Use any of several public beach access points. Then spread your beach blanket & view remarkable palm filled sunsets. It's also popular for shelling, beachcombing, and bird watching.

Caladesi Island State Park

On the same barrier island as Clearwater Beach, order up a boat-trip to Caladesi Island. It's worth that boat or ferry ride for fun in an unspoiled natural environment. An excellent peaceful natural retreat When You Stay Here, too.

Try the three-mile kayak trail, winding through mangrove forests. You're sure to see dolphins, manatees, and exotic bird species. You can also take nature trails, picnic, swim & go shelling. Lush tropical forests provide a different sunset experience.

St. Pete Beach

St. Pete Beach is a community on the barrier island located just southeast of Treasure Island.

It's a popular setting known for striking sunsets and lively moods. You'll love the beaches along the Gulf of Mexico, with soft, white sand & warm, calm turquoise waters.

Farthest north is Upham Beach Park with a Top Nearby Stay.

Along the 67th Ave. to 71st Ave. shoreline. Parking costs, but after 8pm they no longer charge. But here's Your Own Beachfront Stay.

Continuing South on Gulf Blvd. until passing 49th Ave-E. A large parking lot nearby. Easily walk to the sandy beach with calm swimming & all water sports (rentals available here).

More Beaches for Sunset Along This Pinellas County Coast

The whole island Has Beach-Side Stays with gorgeous sunset opportunities. Go south to check out Serena Beach. It's always open. Directions:

  • After 31st Ave. Gulf Blvd. becomes Pass A Grille Way. Make a right onto 30th Ave. & take the left onto Sunset Way. 
  • At 28th Ave. make a right then a left to get back to Sunset Way.
  • At the 22nd Ave. light, go right. As it ends, straight ahead is Serena Beach. You'll have streetside parking as you turn left onto Gulf Way.

Even farther south, you'll see beach after beach. Nearly all with plenty of parking, mostly angled at streetside.

Many resorts and places to stay are all along the St. Pete Beach coastline. For something different Try The Don CeSar Hotel, nicknamed "Pink Palace."

And there's even more sites to see:

  • Corey Ave. is the main shopping and dining district.
  • The next island south is Shell Key, a preserve. This pristine experience is accessible by boat. Visitors enjoy bird watching, shelling & kayaking.

Fort Desoto Park

Fort De Soto County Park with fabulous beaches.

A sprawling area offering many activities and natural palm aesthetic. Taking up the most southern barrier island of Pinellas County.

The park's North Beach is often ranked among the best USA beaches. With soft white sand, clear waters for swimming, and excellent shelling. Plentiful facilities include picnic shelters, restrooms, and a snack bar.
